Private Tours and Experiences in Puerto Rico

Our guide, Carlos, was so kind and incredibly informative about the history of Puerto Rico, all the way from the lives of the original indigenous people, all the way to modern-day Puerto Rican politics, as well as the culture, food and geography. He showed us the two major forts, took us to one of the original creators of the pina colada and shared lots of stories about colonial Puerto Rico and its years as an American territory. Our 11-year old daughter and 10-year son were captivated, and we really enjoyed our time with Carlos.

Our tour with Carlos was exceptional. He shared fascinating insight and local knowledge that gave us a much deeper understanding of Puerto Rico’s history and culture. Every stop felt meaningful because of the stories and context he provided. Carlos spoke perfectly clear English, was patient, courteous, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. Our tour with MBTION was very good. The guide was informative and incredibly well versed in the history of Old San Juan. Although a short 2 hour tour, we left with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Puerto Rico, its history, and its people.

This area is a MUST SEE!. When we went (we visited it twice) it was a very windy day and for sure no swimming was allowed. There is a sign that says "NO SWIMMING" but take a chair and a couple drinks and just sit. You cant stop watching the waves splash over the rocks and come up on the beach. Definately do not take kids because they will only be tempted to swim.

Awesome tour! Our family had an amazing time. We had young children and elderly with us so heavy walking was out but we saw all the highlights and will definitely do it again. Highly recommended. Private tour with appropriate breaks.

We were able to take two tours earlier this month with Carlos. They were both private and in setting up the tours Carlos was great to work with and we settled on using the SUV. The SUV was great for our family that included two kids. For the old San Juan tour Carlos let us know the day before there were going to be some potential protests so helped and adjusted the time. Both days Carlos was waiting at the hotel to pick us up. The old San Juan tour was perfect - Carlos was a great guide and provided us with details of the history of PR and made it real with anecdotes from his own family and experiences. He also was able to answer our many questions. We had the right amount of time walking around and seeing the forts. The second day we did an all day nature tour. The first stop and beach were phenomenal - the views of the waves and climbing over the rocks to look out on the ocean were a highlight and this was not crowded at all. Carlos also took the time to ensure we ate on our lunch schedule and ended up at a very clean, tasty, and authentic local spot where he helped us navigate the menu. Driving through the middle of the island and all the ups and downs provides great views and at the waterfall was a good balance of a short hike and being rewarded with a pretty cool experience the whole family enjoyed. We then went to another are along a river with a huge rocks and petroglyphs and got in the river too. On the way back we had a few options but decided on visiting a black sand beach. Through the two days Carlos was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging and was very good to the entire family including the kids. He also knew quite a lot about the history of the hotel the El San Juan we were at. These two days were exactly what we wanted in terms of exploring, history, sightseeing and nature.

My 8 y/o daughter and I had the pleasure of doing not one, but two separate tours with Carlos! The first day we went hiking in the rainforest and got a tour of Old San Juan. The next day we took a scenic road trip through the mountains to the other side of the island to go snorkeling. We saw a bunch of beautiful fish, a sea urchin, and even a spider crab 😆 All the while, Carlos would fill the time by telling us stories about the history of Puerto Rico, point out the “must see” features on the trip (even pull over on the side of the road so we wouldn’t miss the sights), and just generally be the kindest, friendliest human. 10/10. Would HIGHLY recommend!
